For breakfast or as a snack, toast doesn't have to be boring! Check out some quick and easy recipes to make toast tasty.
Avocado

A great source of multivitamins and protein, as well as being free from sodium and cholesterol, this green treat makes the perfect partner to top toast.
Peanut Butter & Banana

Peanut butter is another great source of protein, which when paired with banana, is packed with potassium, something which is hard to get into your diet naturally. Feel fuller for longer with this quick recipe, which is a great lunchbox idea too!
Eggs

Whether you poach, boil, scramble or fry them (in coconut oil obviously!) eggs and toast are meant to be. As well as being another fantastic source of complete protein, eggs are so quick & simple to cook - making them your 'go-to' option.
Cream Cheese & Cucumber

Tread carefully with cream cheese, opting for a lower fat version to reduce the level of saturated fat & cholesterol present. Or try cottage cheese as an alternative. Although in moderation, teamed with cucumber this can be a fresh, light snack.
Creamy Garlic Mushrooms

Fast, filling and full of flavour. Start by lightly frying the mushrooms. Garlic olive oil is a nice touch, but coconut oil is always a favourite of mine. Stir in some garlic & herb cream cheese and simmer until thick & creamy. Top with cracked black pepper for the perfect bite.
Nut Butters

Peanut, almond or cashew; go nuts and top your toast with butter. Plain, simple and super easy. Although nuts are known to be quite fatty, the majority of 'nut-butters' are a high source of unsaturated (healthier) fats. So there's nothing to worry about when grabbing a cheeky slice.
What type of bread is best?

White, brown, seeded, wholegrain- there's so many to choose from. So which one is best to load with toppings? I suggest opting for brown or wholegrain as an alternative to white bread, as these are a higher source of fibre and protein and are low in saturated fat and sodium. All whilst also including Calcium, Magnesium and Iron.
You could make things a little fancier by trying ciabatta or pitta bread - great for taking to work as a mid-morning snack.
Other toast topping ideas...
1. Beans - as a change to baked, try pinto or white beans with a sprinkle of cracked black pepper.
2. Houmous
3. Avocado & fresh sliced tomatoes
4. Cream cheese - with salmon, chopped olives or chives
5. Honey, reduced sugar jam or a thin sliver of marmite
Do you have another that you love? If so, share it with me - I'd love to see the weird and wonderful!
